Expressive Landscape Paint at Newlyn School of Art

I’m delighted to be teaching my three-day Expressive Landscape course at Newlyn School of Art in 2027.

Together, we’ll explore playful and energetic ways of responding to landscape and place, using quick painted sketches, layering, sanding, scraping and rubbing back paint to develop textured, expressive surfaces. We’ll also look at tone, complementary colour, composition, and contrasts of edge and line — all in the service of making paintings that feel both balanced and alive.

The course is open to all levels of experience. We’ll work with a range of materials, including oil paint, acrylic, pencil, charcoal and chalk, all provided by the school. There will also be opportunities to work out on location in West Cornwall, with minibus transport included.

The next courses run 5–7 April and 26–28 August 2027. Find full details and book your place through Newlyn School of Art.
